Shuraiaan signs KD 420-mln development contracts

KUWAIT, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- Minister of Electricity and Water Dr. Bader Al-Shuraiaan signed Thursday five contracts, at a value of 420 million Kuwaiti dinars, related to projects in his ministry's development plan. The most important project is one related to the implementation of the second phase of the efforts to convert southern Al-Zour power plant into the combined cycle system through installing additional gas turbines, Shuraiaan said following the signing of the contracts. The project, expected to add about 370 megawatts to the station production, would cost 320 million Kuwaiti dinars and take 36 months to complete. The second contract is related to the building and repair of five water reservoirs at a capacity of 80 million gallons each in western Finats area. The reservoirs would cost 47 million Kuwaiti dinars and complete in 36 months time. The third contract is related to a KD 37-million project to install and repair pipelines for drinking water extending from Abdullah Al-Jaded Port to western Finats area. The project is expected to complete in 24 months. The fourth contract is related to the project of building 225 minor water stations across the state at a total cost of 7 million Kuwaiti dinars. The fifth contract is related to a KD 7-million project for extending 300-kilovolts electricity cables. Shuraiaan also noted that the Cabinet would discuss next Tuesday the bill presented by his ministry on organizing founding of shareholding companies for setting up power stations. KUNA
